2012 FIS World Criterium Alpine Masters

without comments

At the end of March I decided to take full advantage of the first free 10-day period on my calendar in a long time to travel out west to work on two personal projects. The first brought me back to Spanish Forks, Utah to continue working on a project that looks at the worldwide celebration of the Hindu festival of Holi. The festival this year was absolutely amazing. It was estimated that there was at least 80,000 people in attendance on the day I was there.

After dropping my friend Viv off at the airport I headed to Mammoth Lakes, California to spend the next week covering the 2012 FIS World Criterium Alpine Masters. This event is held annually at different locations around the world, and is considered the World Championships for Masters skiing. Over the week, I met some amazing individuals who are still racing almost as fast as their younger counter parts on the FIS World Cup. Due to the weather I was only able to photograph three days of racing. It was ironic that as a skier I was annoyed every time the weather report called for 8+ inches of snow…

These are some of the frames that I captured using my iPhone during my time in the mountains when I was not using with my normal Nikon gear. More tk…

Adrienne Arsht for Capitol File

without comments

A few months ago I had the unique privilege to meet and spend the day photographing Adrienne Arsht for Capitol File Magazine. Over the years I have had the honor of meeting and photographing some amazing individuals, from world class athletes to world leaders, but Ms. Arsht was one of the most accommodating subjects that I have worked with. From looking natural in front of the camera to sharing priceless stories about the behind the scenes of the inner workings of DC politics, what was a very long day felt extremely short. Simply put she made my job as a photographer easy. In addition to the spread, I’ve included two unique details from the day that ended up not making the final piece. More tk…

2012 NHL Playoffs – Boston Bruins v Washington Capitals

without comments

By far the biggest story in DC besides last night’s drafting of RGIII by the Washington Redskins has been the Washington Capitals defeating the defending Stanley Cup Champions Boston Bruins in the first round of the 2012 NHL playoffs. For a team that looked like everything was going against them with both of their starting goalies injured, they somehow pulled off the 4-3 series victory. Their new goalie Braden Holtby #70 has played incredible, and most likely has cemented his place as an elite goaltender in the league. I would highly recommend that everyone check out the New York Rangers v Washington Capitals series that starts in a few days. It should be an amazing series! Below are a few photos from Games 3, 4, & 6 for Getty Images. More tk…
